Hiwan Hills Remodel
Improved function was of upmost importance in this remodel. Functional issues were prevalent throughout the kitchen like corner drawers hitting adjacent cabinets preventing them from opening, the dishwasher door completely blocked the walkway when open, no modern roll outs or soft close existing in the cabinetry and an extremely large two-tier island had way too many seats.
To solve these problems, the kitchen was completely reconfigured. The back wall of the kitchen was pulled forward to create a large pantry behind the range. Doors to the new pantry and the new mudroom flanked the range creating a symmetrical back wall. The T-shape island provides extra seating for everyday gathering, working and eating. Nickels Custom Cabinets were used throughout the kitchen in black walnut and a premium green laminate. A Raw Urth custom hood in Zinc creates a stunning focal point.
The fireplace surround was transformed from an awkward niche to a more cohesive composition with materials that matched the new modern aesthetic. Accordion doors were added to open up the living room to the panoramic view from the deck. A new front door and new entry tile made the entry space feel more welcoming and introduces visitors to the contemporary design. The laundry and mudroom were also reconfigured for a more spacious and functional design. New, high-end lighting was selected throughout the main level.
