Tavern on the Ridge

This 4,600-sf new construction home sits on a secluded ridge overlooking an expansive and beautiful valley in the Rocky Mountains. Creating a seamless barrier between the interior and exterior was the primary goal of the architecture and design.  Wide accordion doors and extra-large, commercial-grade picture windows exist throughout the house to maximize the views. The beautiful surrounding landscape can be enjoyed from the comfort of every room. Natural materials, architectural elements and a neutral color palette help connect inside and outside spaces. The team of the client, architect, designer and builder all worked together so well. A great team makes for a great project, and this one was truly special. Blackbird did all of the interior design including all finishes, cabinetry, lighting, fixtures and furniture. Also included in our scope was the space plan for the upstairs.

The Kitchen, Dining Area, Living Room, Entry and Back Patio

The kitchen, dining area, living room and entry are all part of one large space that opens out to the heated exterior patio with boundless views.  The open layout, which truly blends the indoor and outdoor spaces, is ideal for gathering and entertaining.  An artistic, clear glass wine closet separates the dining area from the tavern, adding to the open floorplan.  Nickels Custom Cabinetry was used throughout the kitchen to gain ultimate control over both aesthetics and functionality.  Designated places for kitchen items keep the counters free of clutter. Accessories were used to maximize storage efficiency including a pull-out paper towel holder, a utensil pullout, concealed knife blocks and spice inserts, etc. A hidden coffee cabinet with retractable doors and integrated lighting minimizes visual clutter. Custom metal shelves span over large windows on the backsplash. They provide additional storage while, more importantly, allowing abundant natural light.  The shelves match the aesthetic of the custom metal hood by Raw Urth over the range.

The Tavern

Getting to design a unique space is always a true joy for a designer. The client's vision was to create a space for entertaining in the center of the house that would open up to their fabulous view. The rustic vibe included a corrugated metal ceiling, reclaimed wood paneling, antique glass tile, custom metal island and shelf details and a glass garage door. Every detail was thought through down to the reclining leather sofa. The best part though was sharing a drink at the bar with the client upon completion!

Simplicity, calmness and a connection to the outdoors is what it is all about. We used Nickels Custom Cabinetry and Porcelanosa Tile to create this gorgeous space. Details like recessed medicine cabinets with integrated power, a zero-entry shower and a variety of lighting options including lighting under the cabinetry make this space truly custom. The homeowners can say hello to the passing wildlife while enjoying a shower! In the bedroom, we designed a highly custom wood paneled wall to provide richness to the room and also to integrate the TV, a dresser and conceal the living room fireplace bump. We even built in a hidden storage closet for their items that need extra security! The furniture was selected from Restoration Hardware.

Primary Bath and Bedroom

Secondary spaces include the powder room, laundry room, kennel room, the stairs / stairwell, upstairs bedrooms and upstairs guest bathrooms. Blackbird worked with the client on all selections for these rooms including the finishes, fixtures and furniture.
